India vs US: tit-for-tat diplomacy

India today struck back at the US after it expelled Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade, who is at the centre of the row on alleged visa violations involving her domestic help Sangeeta Richard. Ms Khobragade was granted diplomatic immunity which ensured that she was not arrested in New York despite being indicted. But New Delhi has now gone on the offensive, demanding the expulsion of a US consular official within 48 hours - the first time in 30 years that India is taking such a step. Will India-US ties recover from this latest slump, and just how long will it take? We discuss.
