Nobel laureate and economist Amartya Sen has said the "war" analogy used by the government in its effort to stop the spread of COVID-19 is a "bad one". "...In a country of divergent views, different interests... some people are concerned primarily with stopping COVID-19, others are concerned about where they next meal is going to come from. If in the process of the lockdown, you do away with a lot of jobs and that's how lack of income comes, then we end up in a situation where there will be a lot of deaths from hunger. What we need is a cooperative approach. War is never cooperative. I think the war analogy is unwise," Amartya Sen said.
