Months before the all-important UP assembly elections, Akhilesh Yadav and the BJP are set to face off against each other in elections for chairpersons of the state's Zila Panchayats of district councils. There are 75 seats in total of which polling will take place on Saturday on 53 seats. 21 BJP candidates and one from the Samajwadi Party have already been elected unopposed. While these polls may not be a benchmark or even an indicator for the state election, they will be keenly watched for the timing just before the 2022 polls.
