A series of comments by Congress leaders defending new poverty figures has handed the opposition a lush opportunity to attack the government for being disconnected from reality and ignoring the challenges of raging inflation. Farooq Abdullah of the National Conference, which participates in the ruling coalition at the Centre, said on Thursday, "Feeding a stomach can cost Rs. 1 or Rs. 100. It depends on what you buy."
