The Congress and the BJP have gone head to head in Assam where votes were cast in the first of two phases on Monday. Voting took place for 65 seats in Upper Assam region with a 78 per cent turnout. The Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government is facing 15 years of anti-incumbency and the BJP fancies its chances.
