It looks set to be a long, hot summer for Karnataka. After a poor monsoon, most reservoirs in the state are well below a comfortable level. The Krishna Raja Sagara Dam - or KRS dam is a main source of drinking water for Bangalore, Mysore, Mandya and other towns in between and also for for the fertile Mandya district with its main crops of sugarcane and rice. But no water is being released for irrigation now. The dam level is very low and the fear is that if there are no showers then it might be necessary to dip into the dead storage for drinking supply.
