Contesting Delhi municipal elections from jail

Among those contesting the elections for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, from Jamia Nagar's Batla House area, is Zia-ur-Rehman, who is an accused in the 2008 Delhi serial blast case. Zia is currently lodged in the Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad. He was arrested after gunbattle with the Delhi Police in the aftermath of the serial blasts in the city in 2008. His family members, who are campaigning extensively for Zia, say the fight is to prove his innocence. But residents of Batla House are also asking, what about basic amenities in the locality?
