On the 44th anniversary of its imposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invokes the emergency in his address to the Parliament today. He goes on to say India's soul was crushed and that it is a blot on democracy which can never be forgotten. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee however says the last 5 years of the Modi rule were like a 'super emergency'.
