AIIMS Director, Dr Randeep Guleria, explains that vaccines induce T-cell immunity for long-term protection against viruses but in order to determine their efficacy against mutations, more data is required. Referring to a more contagious mutation of the coronavirus first detected in the UK, he said if the virus strain mutates significantly, vaccines may have to be tweaked.
