The Rajasthan government has introduced a criminal law amendment ordinance which says that a magistrate can't register an FIR without government permission which can take up to six months. Worryingly, the ordinance also states that the media can't even report any such complaint, and whoever does faces jail for two years. The Rajasthan government's move has caused massive outrage not only among the opposition and activists but riled even some BJP MLAs. We ask, is the Vasundhara Raje government's 'gag' law constitutional? Is it against anti-corruption? Are the sanctions merely a pretext for protecting the netas and babus?
