A few days ago, Rajasthan removed Urdu words from Hindi textbooks for class 8 students in government-run schools. There are concerns about Urdu being taught in fewer schools across the country. However, a recent Urdu festival in the capital, 'Jashn-e-Rekhta', celebrated the quintessential spirit of Urdu and received an overwhelming response. With over 75 poets, academics and artists from India and across the subcontinent, the festival engrossed both the young and the old across communities.
