The Opposition has targeted Home Minsiter P Chidambaram over allegations that his office tried to end a trial against his former legal client, SP Gupta. But Mr Gupta, who is a hotelier, says he has never met Mr Chidambaram - in person or during court proceedings - and that he had never made a personal plea for relief from the Home Minister.
