The National Highway Authority of India claims it has already acquired 17,604 hectares – about 30 per cent of its target for the year – between April and July. NHAI's land acquisition target for 2010-11 was 60,564 hectares. NHAI claims that the solution to land acquisition lies in the fact that land owners are paid market rates for the land.
