Trekking has gone from a niche hobby to a weekend plan for half the youth. But before you lace up your boots and hit the hills, keep these super basic (and super useful) trekking tips in mind to make sure your trip is more wow and less why did I do this.

Always go for a pair that has a solid grip and fits you right. One wrong step in the hills, and you are sliding down like a bad decision. Invest in the right hiking footwear, it is your best gear.

Take short, regular breaks. Stretch, breathe, sip some water. Staying hydrated and giving your legs a moment will help you go longer without hitting a wall.
Carry proper trekking snacks like fruits, nuts, and protein bars—something that gives energy and keeps your stomach happy. Hiking on an empty stomach is a terrible idea.

Do not just assume the weather will cooperate. Look it up. Is it going to rain? Will it be chilly? Knowing what to expect means you can pack the right clothes and gear.

Be real about your fitness. If this is your first trek, maybe skip the 3-day, high-altitude one. Go for something shorter and easier. The goal is to enjoy the journey, not come back with regrets (or a pulled muscle).
