HDFC Bank, the nation's second-biggest private sector lender, said on Tuesday net profit for July-September climbed 20 percent from a year ago to Rs 3,455 crore ($517 million), just beating analysts' estimate of Rs 3,415 crore.

Kotak Mahindra Bank has acquired 19.90 percent stake in Airtel Payments Bank Limited, and is expected to bring its banking expertise to the venture.

Kotak Mahindra Bank, India's fourth-biggest private sector lender by assets, reported a better-than-expected 28 per cent increase in quarterly profit and a stable bad loan ratio, sending its shares up more than 4 per cent.

Its earnings were broadly in line with street estimates as analysts polled by NDTV had estimated its consolidated net profit at Rs 853 crore on NII of Rs 1,014 crore.

However, the total income decreased to Rs 3,695.98 crore for the second quarter of the current fiscal from Rs 4,035.75 crore in the year-ago period, Kotak Mahindra Bank said in a filing to the BSE.

Kotak Mahindra has reported 15 per cent year-on-year jump in consolidated net profit for the quarter ending September 2012. However, net interest income was lower than estimates leading to a correction in stock prices.

Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd has informed BSE that a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bank will be held on October 20, 2010, to consider and take on record the unaudited financial results of the Bank for the quarter and half year ended September 30, 2010 (Q2).
