Kishenganga Hydroelectric Project

The 300 MegaWatt Kishenganga hydroelectric power project, executed by NHPC, is likely to be commissioned this year and it will go a long way in augmenting the power generation capacity, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Kumar Singh said.

In a significant development, the World Bank has paused the separate processes initiated by India and Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty to allow the two countries to consider alternative ways to resolve their disagreements.

India has taken strong exception to what it calls the World Bank's "inexplicable" decision to set up a Court of Arbitration and also appoint a neutral expert to examine Pakistan's complaint on two hydroelectric projects as part of a larger row over the Indus Waters Treaty.

In the high Himalayan Kashmir valley, the latest battle line between India and Pakistan  has been drawn.
