Nissan India Operations president Kenichiro Yomura said the new model will strengthen Nissan's presence within this crucially important and growing segment.

Commenting on the sales performance, Nissan Group of India President Kenichiro Yomura said: "Our sales performance has been encouraging since the start of FY'14 and our aim is to continue to remain progressive on our performance."

Japanese auto major Nissan on Friday reported an over four-fold jump in sales in India at 5,301 units last month.

Nissan India has launched an updated version of its multi-utility vehicle Evalia priced between Rs 8.78 lakh and Rs 10.73 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

"We are planning to launch Datsun by the end of this financial year," president and CEO of Nissan Motors India Kenichiro Yomura said.

Nissan India launched on Wednesday two variants of its top-selling hatchback Micra. The car maker also said it is planning to come out with a refreshed model of Evalia to stimulate demand for its multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment.

"Terrano will be produced at Nissan's Oragadam plant alongside the premium hatchback Micra, Sunny sedan and Evalia urban class utility vehicle, expanding Nissan's locally-built model range to four," Nissan India said in a statement.

Nissan sales rose 11 per cent at 36,975 units in the domestic market in financial year 2012-13 against 33,270 units in the previous fiscal year, the Japanese auto-maker reported on Tuesday.
