Footwear manufacturer Bata India is in talks with sportswear giant Adidas for a strategic partnership, CNBC-TV18 reported on Thursday citing sources, sending shares up as much as 7.3%.

Bata India's revenue from operations jumped 98 per cent to Rs 267 crore versus Rs 135 crore during the corresponding quarter in the year ago period.

Bata India Share Price Today: On Thursday, Bata India opened on the BSE at Rs 1,540, swinging to an intra day high of Rs 1,657.50 and an intra day low of Rs 1,540, so far.

Ruchit Jain of Angel Broking says good traction is expected in the Nifty.

LIC bought 26.11 lakh shares, amounting to a 2.03 per cent stake, from open market during January 20 to December 8, 2016, according to a regulatory filing.

Despite weak numbers, Nirmal Bang Securities maintained its "accumulate" rating on Bata India, though the brokerage lowered its target price on the stock to Rs 530 against Rs 550 earlier.

Footwear major Bata India on Monday reported a 52.31 per cent decline in net profit at Rs 27.86 crore for the fourth quarter ended March.

Overall puts have added 31.3 lakh shares to open interest while open interest in calls have increased by 42.2 lakh share keeping the put-call-ratio(PCR) unchanged at 0.78.

Weak demand, supply chain problems and likely market share loss to e-commerce players impacted Bata India sales, said Nirmal Bang Securities.

Addition of bullish bets were also visible on the futures side as well; the Nifty November future saw addition of 1.2 lakh shares to open interest, while premium in the future increased to 26.55 points from 25.35 points earlier.

Bata India's net profit grew 55 per cent year-on-year to Rs 92 crore, while its revenue registered a growth of 9 per cent at Rs 680 crore. Bata India had reported a net profit of Rs 60 crore on net sales of Rs 622 crore in the June quarter of previous fiscal.

Bata India rallied as much as 6 per cent to hit intraday high of Rs 1,295. Liberty Shoes also surged over 10 per cent to Rs 309.60.

The Nifty is likely to open flat on Thursday tracking weakness in global markets. Domestic sentiments may remain subdued as foreign investors extended their selling streak to the fourth consecutive day; they were net sellers to the tune of Rs 371 crore yesterday. However, domestic investors bought shares worth Rs 147 crore in the cash market.

The Nifty opened higher on Tuesday. Foreign investors resumed their buying momentum on Monday after three days of selling. FIIs bought cash shares worth Rs 373 crore, however domestic investors remained net sellers to the tune of Rs 251 crore on Monday. Market will look for cues from the Reserve Bank's credit policy due to be announced today.

Bata's revenue grew by 9 per cent y-o-y to Rs 495 crore in the first quarter of calendar year 2014, but its net profit took a hit due to reduced ebitda (earnings before interest, tax and depreciation) margin. Its ebitda margin fell to 13.2 per cent from 13.8 per cent y-o-y in this quarter.
