Ambuja Cements, controlled by Swiss major LafargeHolcim, fell nearly 3 per cent on Thursday tracking weak Q3 earnings. Ambuja Cements has a large presence in north, west and south India accounting for 80 per cent of its volumes where demand remains weak, analysts said.

Ambuja Cements on Wednesday reported a 36 per cent decline in standalone net profit at Rs 153.57 crore for the third quarter that ended on September 30, 2015, due to an additional depreciation charge, among other factors.

The company, in which Swiss building material major Holcim holds the majority stake, had reported Rs 166 crore net profit after tax in the same quarter last year.

Cement major ACC is expected to post 50 per cent year-on-year jump in net profit for the July to September quarter on account of higher realisation. A brokers' poll by NDTV sees net profit to rise to Rs 251 crore in the September quarter over Rs 168 crore last year.

There was a dip in EBITDA margins on the back of higher input costs.
