People of Tamil Nadu Disillusioned With Family Politics: BJP Leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy

Rajiv Pratap Rudy attended the Tamil Nadu BJP's state council meet today.

Chennai: After its impressive wins in Maharashtra and Haryana, the BJP aims to continue its wining spree in Tamil Nadu, which is headed for assembly polls in 2016. Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy, the man who was in charge of Maharashtra, is the party in-charge of the state.

Mr Rudy, who attended the party's state council meet today, said "Wherever we have fought elections under Prime Minister Modi, people wanted a change. Tamil Nadu will not lag behind".

The BJP's early move comes at a time when Former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, the chief of the ruling AIADMK, can't contest polls due to her conviction in a disproportionate assets case. Senior eaders of the DMK, including Kanimozhi, former Telecom Minister A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran are facing corruption allegations.

Mr Rudy claimed that "The people of Tamil Nadu are disillusioned with family and hate politics".

In the recent Lok Sabha polls, the BJP-led NDA alliance had won just two out of the 39 seats contested. However, Mr Rudy is optimistic about the party's chances in the state.

"BJP's present three per cent vote share isn't stagnant. We have peaked up to seven percent in the past," he said.

Meanwhile, NDA allies MDMK, PMK and the DMDK are reportedly upset with the BJP for inviting Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
