The five-day long festival of Durga Puja commemorates the story of the lion-riding, 10-armed Goddess Durga's slaying of a demon king, signifying the triumph of good over evil.

Durga Puja also includes the worship of Shiva in addition to Lakshmi, Saraswati with Ganesha and Kartikeya.
Modern traditions have come to include the display of decorated pandals and artistically depicted sculptures of Durga.

Durga Puja festival is celebrated from the sixth to tenth day of bright lunar fortnight in the Bikram Sambat Calendar month of Ashwin.
