Infosys has appointed former SAP chief technology officer Vishal Sikka as CEO. He will be inducted on the Infosys board on June 14, the day when Infosys founder Narayana Murthy will step down as executive chairman.

Infosys has appointed former SAP chief technology officer Vishal Sikka as CEO. On his appointment, Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar Shaw tweeted: "Vishal Sikka will now lead Infosys. an iconic company (sic) founded by an iconic founder and his great founding team - I wish him all success."

Infosys founder and executive chairman said, "Vishal is special to me, he's a Ph.D from Stanford. Getting a Ph.D from Stanford is the highest award you can get as an individual."

"Sikka is not a stranger to Infosys and the way we operate," said S D Shibulal, the current CEO of the IT services provider who will step down on August 1.

"The best is yet to come for Infosys," said Kris Gopalakrishnan, who will voluntarily step down as the executive vice chairman and continue as non-executive chairman.

"The CEO selection process was transparent and completed in less than eight months," said KV Kamath, lead independent director at Infosys. The company had shortlisted four candidates for the CEO post, he added.
