Priscilla Chan became Mrs Mark Zuckerberg on Saturday in the Facebook founder's backyard in the presence of less than 100 people who were there, they thought, to celebrate Chan's graduation as a new pediatrician. They celebrated a new bride instead.
On Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg's marital status changed to "married" and the world had been informed that the 28-year-old millionaire had wed his sweetheart of eight years.
Priscilla and Mark met as undergraduates at the Harvard University in 2004. Zuckerberg dropped out of college to work on Facebook, while Chan stayed on to earn her undergraduage degree in 2007 and then her medical degree this year from the University of California, San Francisco. The much-hyped organ donation appeal on Facebook a few days ago stemmed from her work.
Of course Priscilla has a Facebook page. On it, she describes herself as a "simple creature who loves cooking and soft things." She also likes, she says, "the Food Network, warm places and sun-dried tomatoes." Chan speaks English, Cantonese and Spanish, Facebook.
Before she joined medical college to begin "learning to be a doctor," Priscilla worked as a Grade 4 and 5 Science Teacher at the Harker School where she described her work as "hanging out with the little ones and trying to explain how the world works".
The couple live together in Palo Alto and have a Hungarian sheepdog named Beast, who has his own Facebook page. Photographing Beast is one of Priscilla's stated passions.
