AGAINST ALL ODDS

Pranav Dhanawade

Pranav Dhanawade, a Mumbai schoolboy and the son of an auto-rickshaw driver, grabbed international headlines in a sport where the margin of error is virtually nil.

The 15-year-old cricketer smashed an unbeaten 1009 not out off 327 deliveries to notch up the highest individual score in minor cricket, breaking a 117-year-old record.

Arthur Collins had scored 628 not out in a Junior House Match in June, 1899 in England. Pranav batted for 395 minutes and his mammoth score included 59 sixes and 129 fours.

His KC Gandhi School, Kalyan, declared soon after at 1465 for 3 and then wrapped up an overwhelmingly one-sided game against Arya Gurukul - bowled out for 31 and 52 - by an innings and 1382 runs.
