Vadodara:  A 22-feet-long whale, weighing four tonnes was released into a sea near Dhamlej port in Junagarh district, 300 km from Vadodara, after it had strayed into a fish trap.

"The giant fish was caught in a fishing net accidentally while fishing into the sea, 30 nautical miles away from port," president of the Prakruti Nature Club Dineshgiri Goswami said.

He said, "The owner of the boat used by the fishermen, Doud Fakira Bhesaliya informed me at 9:30 this morning and our entire rescue team reached the spot."

"When we reached, the giant fish was under the net which was folded around her body seven times," Goswami said, adding, it was a female whale.

He said the team decided to cut the net and ensured that the fish was not injured.

He said it took around 40 minutes to cut the net to release the fish into the sea.
