Couple Loses Ring In Viral Wedding Proposal Video. Jimmy Kimmel To The Rescue

This epic wedding proposal fail caught the attention of American talk show host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel

A couple who accidentally lost a $3,000 engagement ring after it fell into a pond were surprised with a "do over" proposal on popular American late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! But that isn't the only good news for the couple, who were given a sparkling new diamond ring for their proposal 2.0.

Seth Dixon dropped the ring while proposing to girlfriend Ruth Salas in Kansas City's Loose Park on September 9. Mr Dixon probably started regretting choosing the picturesque bridge as the spot for the proposal the moment the ring slipped out of his fingers and fell right into the pond. A short clip of the proposal fail immediately went viral on social media.

The video caught the attention of talk show host Jimmy Kimmel who decided to fly the couple across the country to Los Angeles under false pretenses.

His team told the couple they would be interviewed for the show "20/20." Instead, they were seated in the audience of Mr Kimmel's show. He played out the video and then called the surprised couple onto the stage.

And the surprises kept coming.

First, jewellery designer Neil Lane presented the couple with a gorgeous oval cut diamond ring surrounded by 100 sparking diamonds.

Then, Mr Kimmel revealed they had recreated the proposal setting so that Mr Dixon could finally pop the question the way he had planned and didn't drop the ring this time.

In yet another happy surprise for the couple, a Good Samaritan dove into the pond and actually found the original ring weeks after it went missing. The Kansas City Star reports Michael Long, a stranger to the couple, found the lost ring hours after divers in wet suits went hunting for it. Mr Long reportedly searched for four hours until he found the diamond ring.

Though Mr Dixon and Ms Salas told Mr Kimmel's producers they had managed to find the ring, they say they were told they could keep the new ring as well.

The couple is set to tie the knot on October 21.Click for more trending news
