Armed with their cameras, enthusiastic travellers from all over the world are crowding an unusual tourist spot in Japan - a waste incinerator in Osaka. Many confused the plant for the Universal Studios Japan theme park, not far from the garbage treatment plant.
But one look at the waste incinerator would tell you why the tourists make the mistake. A whimsical colour scheme, a cartoon-like theme and a golden orb-like chimney gives Maishima waste treatment center its carnival-esque appearance. But there are no rides. Instead, it burns 900 tonnes of garbage every day, reported

The garbage plant sees a footfall of nearly 12,000 curious visitors, with 30% of them being from foreign lands, the report quotes officials.
The plant was built in 2001 and was designed by late Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
