Mumbai Rain Today: Mumbai received 103 mm of rainfall in a span of 21 hours until 5:30 am today.
Hours of continuous rainfall in Mumbai and adjoining districts led to water-logging in several parts of the city today. Schools in Mumbai are closed today after heavy rainfall last night while a red alert was sounded by the weather office today. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) advised locals to avoid "venturing near the sea of walking in water-logged areas".
"In wake of IMD's warning of heavy rainfall for the rest of the day too, the schools shall remain closed today. The Principals of the schools where students are already in, are requested to take all precautions and ensure that the children are sent back home carefully and safely," the BMC tweeted this morning in wake of Mumbai rain.

Residents around Mithi River evacuated: BMC
"The residents around Mithi River have been evacuated temporarily to a safer BMC shelter," the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation tweeted today.
Red alert in Mumbai: Official
Deputy Director General of Meteorology, IMD Mumbai, KS Hosalikar says: "We don't keep rainfall records on hourly basis but more than 100 mm rainfall in three hours is extremely heavy rainfall. We have now given a red alert in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. Rainfall will continue like this for the next 24 hours."
A red alert means likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain.
Out of the 150 weather stations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), around 100 recorded over 200 mm rainfall in last 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Trains stopped temporarily between Vasai and Virar
Water level has gone above 300 mm at Nallasopara. Hence, train operations stopped temporarily between Vasai and Virar.
Services have also been stopped due to continuous heavy rains and waterlogging between Kurla and Chunabhatti.
BMC asks Mumbai residents to stay indoors
"Considering IMD's heavy rainfall warning, we request Mumbaikars to stay indoors in safe premises till the water in low lying areas recedes. Please call us on 1916 or tweet to us for updates," the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has tweeted.

A team of National Disaster Response Force has been dispatched for Bail Bazar road in Kurla, Mumbai, due to increase in water level in Mithi river.
Trains delayed by 10-15 minutes: Central Railway
Our team is constantly monitoring water level to run services smoothly, it says on Twitter.
Western Railways says a few long distance trains are being regulated and suburban trains are running at a restricted speed.
"As water level has reached above 120 mm of tracks at Nallasopara on Up fast lines, few long distance trains are regulated & suburban are running at restricted speed," the Western Railways has tweeted.

Private weather forecaster Skymet says high tide during afternoon around 3 pm might increase water-logging in parts of Mumbai. "Avoid going out, if its not very necessary," it says.

Mumbai Police says traffic moving at slow pace
The official Twitter handle of Mumbai Police posted a list of areas which are water-logged due to rainfall.
"Dear Mumbaikars, Traffic moving slow due to heavy showers & water logging at following places. Please be advised about waterlogging at the following locations: Amrut Nagar Jn., Gandhi Nagar, Ghatkopar, Sakinaka Junction, Sonapur Junction, Mulund." it has tweeted, adding some more areas.

No major disruptions in air travel
At the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, no major air traffic disruptions have been reported so far. "Operations are so far normal with minor delays of 10-15 minutes," an airport official said.
Trains delayed due to heavy rainfall
Heavy rain also led to train delays, the Central Railways said. "Due to heavy rain and poor visibility, main line suburban trains running 10-12 minutes late and harbour line trains running 10 minutes late," it said in a statement.
