Nashik: Sajjad Mogul, who was serving a life sentence at Nashik Central Jail in the sensational Pallavi Purkayastha murder case in Mumbai, has gone missing after he was out on parole in February.

Police have lodged an FIR against Mr Mogul under Section 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) of the IPC on April 28 as he did not return to jail after completion of his parole, Nashik Central Jail Superintendent Ramesh Kamble told PTI.

Mr Mogul, a native of Jammu and Kashmir, had sought parole citing ill health of his mother in February, which was granted as per due procedure. He had then sought an extension of two months, Mr Kamble added.

The jail authorities informed Nashik Road Police that Mr Mogul did not return after completion of his parole, following which a complaint was lodged against him on Arpil 28, Nashik Road Police Station in-charge Sanjay Deshmukh said.

"Local police then contacted Jammu and Kashmir police to check if Sajjad Mogul had visited his ailing mother or his family. He was declared 'absconding' on Wednesday," the officer said.

Corporate lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha, 25, was murdered by Sajjad Mogul on August 9, 2012 in her apartment after she spurned his advances.

Mr Mogul was employed as a watchman in the building. He had managed to get duplicate key of the main door of Ms Pallavi's house where she lived with her fiance Avik Sengupta.

Mr Avik had found her body lying in a pool of blood when he returned home on the fateful day. A little over a year after, he also died of a brain disorder.

A local court had sentenced Mr Mogul to life imprisonment in July, 2014.
