Hadiya's marriage was annulled last year by Kerala High Court after a petition by her father.
The Muslim man who married 25-year-old Hadiya has approached the police to seek her safety. The young woman, who was born Akhila Ashokan, has been
asked to present herself in the Supreme Court in Delhi to give her version of the story. Sheffin Jahan, 26, said he was worried that the journey will take a toll on her health pose a risk to her safety.
"Latest clips show that Hadiya's health has deteriorated... A train journey to Delhi will take a toll on her and can risk her safety too. I hope some provision for an air travel can be made," Mr Jahan told the media after meeting Kerala's police chief Loknath Behera on Tuesday.
Mr Jahan had approached the Supreme Court after his marriage to Hadiya was annulled by the Kerala High Court. The young woman's father had filed a petition in court saying Sheffin Jahan has links to terror organisations and he feared that his daughter was being prepared to be taken to Syria. Hadiya had converted to Islam while studying in college and married Mr Jahan -- a Muslim who returned to Kerala from the Middle East - through an Islamic matrimonial site.
In May, the court annulled the marriage and gave Hadiya's custody to her father. The woman has since been living at home with her parents. Recently, an activist, Rahul Easwar visited her and released a video in which she said, "Get me out of here. Today or tomorrow,
I am going to die. I am sure about this. My father is getting angry, I can make out. He pushes me."
After Mr Jahan challenged the High Court order, the Supreme Court ordered the National Investigation Agency to look into the matter. It has also ordered Hadiya to appear in court on November 27 and testify whether she married Shefin Jahan of her own accord.
The Chairperson of Kerala Commission for Women, MC Josephine, meanwhile, told the media that
Hadiya's father Asokan KM had not allowed her to meet his daughter.
"Hadiya's father denied me permission to meet Hadiya, but
he allowed National Commission for Women Chairperson to meet Hadiya. I have sought a detailed report from the police on why I was denied the permission", Ms Josephine said.
