A Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist was killed today in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, the police said. A special police officer also died in the encounter, while a sub-inspector was injured.
On a credible intelligence input, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by the police and security forces in Ganie-Hamam area in J&K's Baramulla district, he said.
During the search operation, the terrorist, who was hiding, fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter, he added.
In the exchange of fire two policemen sustained injuries - special police offier Bilal Ahmad and sub-inspector Amardeep Parihar, the police spokesman added.
Bilal Ahmad succumbed to injuries while sub-inspector Parihar has been admitted to the Army hospital, he said.
"We pay our tributes to martyr Bilal who made supreme sacrifices in the line of duty," the spokesman said.
The police said that the terrorist who was killed was identified as Momin Gojri, a resident of Baramulla. Gojri was affiliated with the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, and was involved in several terror cases. The police further said that incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter.
The police appealed to citizens, requesting them not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
People are requested to cooperate with the police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all explosive materials, if any, he added.
