Salman Khan Bail Hearing: Salman Khan walked out of Jodhpur jail and will head to Mumbai

New Delhi: Salman Khan walks out of Jodhpur jail after he was granted bail in blackbuck poaching case today. He is to travel to his Mumbai home from Jodhpur. Security arrangements were set-up at both airports and while the actor is in transit. The court will next hear the case on May 7. 

The bail plea was heard by Judge Ravindra Kumar Joshi, who was among 87 sessions court judges who were transferred yesterday. It is customary for judges to be given seven days for the transition. The actor was sentenced to five years for killing two endangered blackbucks nearly 20 years ago. The actor's lawyer had approached the court with his bail application yesterday, but the hearing was put off till today after the judge asked for the entire case records. 

The court on Thursday found him guilty of killing two blackbucks in 1998 and sentenced him to five years in jail. The Bollywood superstar was sent to Jodhpur Central Jail soon afterwards. Four other Bollywood stars, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam Kothari, were acquitted for lack of evidence.

Several members of the Bollywood industry extended their support to Salman Khan as he is to walk out of jail tonight. 



Director of Salman Khan's upcoming film "Race 3" Remo D'Souza told PTI, "I am happy that he has got bail. After working with him so closely I have become a huge fan of him not only as an actor but also as a human being. Almost 90 percent of the shoot for 'Race 3' is over and the remaining portions will mostly be shot in India."

Salman Khan shot and killed the blackbucks, from the antelope family, in Kankani village near Jodhpur on the night of October 1, 1998 during the shooting of the film "Hum Saath Saath Hain". Blackbuck is an endangered animal and included in the schedule-I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act-1972. All the actors were in a Gypsy that night with Salman in the driving seat. He spotted a herd of blackbucks and killed two of them, prosecution lawyer Mahipal Bishnoi said.
