New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set off on a two-day visit to Iran -- his first since taking over office two years ago. The centerpiece of the visit will be the signing of a trilateral agreement on Chabahar -- a strategic port in the Gulf of Oman on Iran's southern coast with Afghanistan. India will help develop the port.

Bilateral agreement on Chabahar port between India and Iran signed.

As part of the deal, India will help develop the port and invest in the first phase around $200 million to develop terminals and cargo berths at Chabahar. In the next phase, India plans to build a 500-km railway line between Chabahar and Zahedan.
