Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today lay the foundation stone of the Zojila tunnel, which is Asia's longest bi-directional tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir. The Rs 6,800 tunnel will provide all weather connectivity between Srinagar, Kargil and Leh as this route remains snow-bound for a large part of the year. The 14.2 km tunnel will also cut down the time taken to cross the Zojila pass from 3.5 hours to just 15 minutes.
During his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi will also inaugurate a hydro-electricity project and participate in the
100th birth anniversary celebrations of Ladakhi spiritual leader Kushak Bakula.

"In a single day, projects worth Rs 25,000 crore will either be inaugurated or initiated in Jammu and Kashmir", PM added.
"There is great scope for agricultural growth across the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This state can play a key role when it comes to helping further holistic healthcare," PM Modi said while addressing a gathering in Leh.
Kushak Bakula Rinpoche was seen as the force behind several political agitations in the region and was its voice all over the world. He was born in Matho on May 21, 1917, and educated at Geshes, Lhasa (Tibet). A scholar of the Mahayana school of Buddhism, he was head priest of the Spituk Gompa. He died in 2003.
