15 On Way To Relative's Funeral Killed In Road Accident In Madhya Pradesh

Road Accident in Morena, Madhya Pradesh: As the jeep took a turn in a village, a sand-laden tractor coming from the opposite direction hit the jeep.

The accident in Madhya Pradesh's Morena took place at around 5:30 am.

Morena, Madhya Pradesh: Fifteen members of a family in Madhya Pradesh, on their way to attend the last rites of their relative, were killed in a road accident after a tractor-trolley rammed their jeep early this morning.The accident took place at around 5.30 this morning in Morena, 456 km from capital Bhopal. Five other family members who were in the jeep have been injured. Five women are among the dead. 

The family of twenty were travelling in the overloaded jeep from Gwalior to Morena to attend the last rites of their relative. Just as the jeep took a turn in Morena's Ghurghan village, a sand-laden tractor coming from the opposite direction hit the jeep. So strong was the impact of the collision that the jeep was crushed and flipped upside down on the road. Police said ten of the people in the jeep died on the spot. All the victims are from Gwalior.

Passers-by who saw the accident called up the police control room and informed the police. The police reached the spot and sent the injured to the district hospital in Morena. Five of the injured people died later.

The authorities had a tough time pulling the bodies out of the mangled jeep. 

The injured are now being treated at three different hospitals in Morena. 

The driver of the tractor-trolley, carrying sand allegedly mined illegally from the National Chambal Sanctuary, fled the spot after the accident, Morena's top police officer Amit Sanghi told NDTV.

Police said a case has been registered against the driver.
