New Delhi: Nine new ministers will be take oath at 10:30 am today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi rejigs his cabinet, possibly for the last time till the 2019 elections, sources have said. Six ministers have resigned from the cabinet since Thursday evening. A new Defence Minister is expected to be appointed, so is a new Railways Minister in this mega reshuffle.

The new faces to make it to the PM's team are Rajya Sabha member Shiv Pratap Shukla, Lok Sabha lawmakers Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Virendra Kumar, Anantkumar Hegde, Raj Kumar Singh, Satya Pal Singh and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hardeep Singh Puri and Alphons Kannanthanam.

  1. Eight ministers including Uma Bharti, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Sanjeev Balyan, Faggan Singh Kulaste, Kalraj Mishra and Bandaru Dattareya have resigned since late Thursday night, and sources said more resignations are expected to make way for new faces. Uma Bharti is said to have been upset about her resignation.

  2. Sources said that Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh could be asked to go.

  3. JD(U)'s Ram Chandra Prasad Singh and Santosh Kushwaha are tipped to be ministers.

  4. Sadananda Gowda, demoted from the Law Ministry to Statistics and Programme Implementation, is unlikely to lose being in the Cabinet due to elections in his state, Karnataka next year. Two more BJP leaders from Karnataka could become ministers.

  5. Evictions have been done on the basis of performance, though the changes in PM Modi's government are being made allegedly with an eye on assembly elections in several states and the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

How each minister handled these campaigns and their promotion has been closely examined by the party.

Among those expected to be picked as new ministers from the BJP are Bhupendra Yadav, who is in-charge of Gujarat, with an eye on elections in the state later this year. Also tipped to be new ministers are Prahlad Singh Patel and Prahlad Joshi from Karnataka where elections will be held next year.

On Thursday night senior BJP leaders Uma Bharti, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and  minister of state Sanjeev Balyan submitted resignations. Sources said Faggan Singh Kulaste and Kalraj Mishra are likely to quit too.
