Man-Eater Leopard Gunned Down By Forest Officials In Murbad

The leopard had killed two people, a man and a woman, over the last one week.

Murbad: A leopard that turned man-eater after it killed two people was hunted down by forest officials in Murbad, nearly 80 kilometres from Mumbai on Wednesday.

The leopard had killed two people, a man and a woman, over the last one week forcing the Principal Chief Conservator in Nagpur to declare it a man-eater and issue shoot (and scoot) orders. It was gunned down at 5 pm in Murbad. Forest official Vijay Surve confirmed the killing.

The body of the animal has been brought to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali.

Locals in Kolewadi claim that the leopard had terrorised the area. To prove its presence to forest officials, locals installed CCTV camera and confronted forest officials with the footage and demanded that the leopard either be captured or killed.

After failing to trap it alive in search operations for so many days, it was finally decided two days ago to kill the animal.
