PM Modi, Xi Jinping met for an informal summit in China's Wuhan in April last year.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, who arrived in Chennai this afternoon, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Mallapuram, coastal town 50 km away from Chennai, today. 

Later today, PM Modi will host a dinner for the Chinese President. They will meet on Saturday morning for a one-on-one meeting nearly a year after they met in China's Wuhan in April last year.

At the informal summit, terrorism, including training, financing and any other support to terror groups, will be one of the key issues to be discussed, said sources. Others will be trade, defence and border issues. Sources say both sides are also looking at possible confidence-building measures for the India-China border, which may be announced later.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today took Chinese President Xi Jinping for a tour of the temples of Mahabalipuram, now known as Mamallapuram, hours after Xi arrived in Chennai to a grand welcome for his second informal meeting with PM Modi since they met in China's Wuhan in April last year. PM Modi arrived by a special flight from Delhi and was received by Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister K Palaniswami among others. The Prime Minister will later proceed to the coastal town of Mamallapuram, about 50 km from Chennai, which will host the two high-profile leaders during their second informal summit.
