'Won't Take Pay': Ex-Engineer Asks Shivraj Chouhan To Add Him In Cabinet

A retired engineer has asked Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister to include him in the cabinet

A retired engineer has written to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, demanding to appoint him as a minister in the state cabinet, or drop 14 others who are not a part of the state legislature yet.

The retired engineer, Balchand Verma, in the letter said 14 ministers who are not even members of the Vidhan Sabha are in the cabinet. "14 such ministers took oath who are not even members of the current Vidhan Sabha and are ordinary citizens. Prior to this, between 2013 and 2018 too during your tenure as the Chief Minister, five people who were not members of the Vidhan Sabha were made ministers," Mr Verma said in the letter.

He asked the Chief Minister to add him in his cabinet and give a portfolio within three days of receiving the letter.

Mr Verma said he is not interested in drawing a salary if he is inducted into the cabinet. He asked the Chief Minister to remove the 14 ministers from his cabinet if he is not included.

Towards the end of the letter, the retired engineer said the Chief Minister would be responsible for "anything bad" that happens if neither of his two requests are met.

28 ministers who joined the Chouhan government in Madhya Pradesh took oath on July 2 in the second cabinet expansion since Mr Chouhan returned as Chief Minister on March 23. He had inducted only five ministers in the cabinet in April.
