The accident occurred following a head-on collision between two cars.

Ujjain:

12 people were killed, while 2 sustained serious injuries in a road accident in Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh today. 

The accident occurred when a vehicle collided with a speeding SUV around 12.30 am in Ramgarh area. The victims were returning home after attending a marriage function in Nagda city, police official Jai C Ram Barde said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident.


Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot condoled the deaths in the accident.

Senior police officer said, "12 people died after two cars collided in Ujjain. One person sustained injuries. The investigation is underway."

The deceased have been identified as the residents of Tilakeshwar Colony and its surrounding regions. They were returning home after attending a marriage function in Nagda.

Yesterday, a similar road accident was reported from Andhra Pradesh where a school bus carrying 50 children fell into a culvert in Guntur district. Three students are reported to be critical. The driver of the bus, SK Tajuddinis, was reportedly drunk at the time of the accident. He is being questioned by the police.
