Srinagar: After the PDP-BJP coalition in Jammu And Kashmir collapsed on Tuesday when the BJP yanked support to Mehbooba Mufti's PDP, President Ram Nath Kovind has today approved Governor's Rule in the state. Governor NN Vohra on Tuesday evening forwarded his report to the President for imposition of Governor's rule.

The signs were there for months, but the break-up still surprised Ms Mufti, who handed in her resignation to Governor Vohra shortly after the BJP's announcement.

"Our agenda was healing touch, we can't treat Jammu and Kashmir as enemy territory," she told reporters. "It had become untenable to continue with the PDP government in Kashmir," said senior BJP leader Ram Madhav, defending the move that will leave the state under Governor's rule for the fourth time since 2008 and eight time since 1977.

Governor NN Vohra has put the Jammu and Kashmir assembly under suspended animation

Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra has placed the state assembly under suspended animation, according to news agency IANS.

Mr Vohra exercised his powers under the constitution after the imposition of Governor's rule.

In the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly, the PDP has 28 seats, the BJP has 25 seats, the National Conference 15, Congress 12, CPM 1, People's Conference 2 and People's Democratic Front 1. There are also 3 independent lawmakers.

In two tweets, rebel BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha said India's security "is above all-above politics, above everything else. Withdrawal of support to the ruling party in Kashmir...too little, too late..but nonetheless, this decision certainly seems to be in favor of the people of Kashmir," he said.

President Ram Nath Kovind Mid-Air As Jammu And Kashmir Report Sent, Sign-Off Came At 6 am

President Ram Nath Kovind was on a flight to Suriname in South America - the second leg of his three-nation tour - when Governor NN Vohra sent his report late last night on putting Jammu and Kashmir under central rule after the government collapsed. The President gave his approval for Governor's Rule which was conveyed to the Union Home Ministry by 6 am."

In another tweet, Omar Abdullah, reacting to deputy chief minister Kavinder Gupta's comments, said, "The only "something" would be to break other parties & make up the numbers to form a BJP Govt. Has the former DCM inadvertently spilled the beans?"

Omar Abdullah has tweeted saying the Jammu and Kashmir assembly should be "dissolved immediately" and that fresh elections should take place as soon as it was appropriate. His comments come after Jammu and Kashmir's former deputy chief minister Kavinder Gupta, of the state BJP, said that he didn't "think a new government will be formed anytime soon".

Mr Gupta had said that the BJP was "working on something" and that people would come to know about it.

Governor NN Vohra forwarded report to President Kovind

To impose central rule or Governor's Rule in Jammu And Kashmir under Section 92, Governor Narinder Nath Vohra had forwarded his report to President Kovind on Tuesday evening.

"Our agenda was healing touch, we can't treat Jammu and Kashmir as enemy territory," Mehbooba Mufti told reporters after the BJP pulled out of the alliance.
