Parliament Day 6 Highlights: Congress Moves Privilege Motion Against PM, Defense Minister On Rafale

Congress gave the privilige motion notice in Lok Sabha today on the Rafale issue.

Monsoon session of Parliament held its sixth day of proceedings today. The Congress gave the Privilege Motion notice against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha today, on the Rafale issue claiming that they have misled the house and the people about the secrecy pact in the deal and the speaker said that the motion was under consideration.

TDP ministers continued their protest over Special State Status to Andhra Pradesh today in the Parliament. The Fugitive Economic Offender's Bill was also discussed and passed by the Rajya Sabha.

  • TDP MPs continued their protest outside the parliament over Spcial State Status to Andhra Pradesh.
  • Fugitive Economic Offender's Bill was discussed and passed by the Rajya Sabha.
  • Congress Leaders gave a Privilege Motion notice against the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister, and the Lok Sabha speaker said that the motion was under consideration.
  • Lok Sabha also held discussions on the recent flood and drought situations in various parts of the country.

Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju, while speaking in the Lok Sabha said that "no state has been discriminated in terms of release of funds", in terms of cognizance taken by central government. He further said that relief is immediate, long term measures are different and "justice will be done to Kerala".

Odisha's Biju Janata Dal leader, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, while speaking in the Lok Sabha said that "farmers of Odisha, of east" haven't received any benefits with the increase in the MSP of rice. He said that the green revolution happened only in northern and western India. He called Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statements on the second green revolution "empty rhetoric".

He said that if the central government doesn't release funds, Odisha's government won't be able to help farmers and "double their income". He also said that both the UPA and the NDA have "been poor" in their outlook of Odisha.

Kahkashan Parveen: Only Woman On Vice-Chairman's Panel In Rajya Sabha

Kahkashan Parveen who is currently on the Chair in the Raya Sabha, is the only woman in the Vice-Chairman's panel and was appointed on the occasion of International Women's Day. She had been appointed after members of the house had pointed out that there was no woman on the panel.

Ms Parveen was chairperson of the Women's Commission in Bihar and had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly election in 2010 from Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district and had also served as Mayor of Bhagalpur.

Congress leader, KC Venugopal, while speaking in the Lok Sabha raised the issue of Kerala floods calling it a "historical calamity". He highlighted the plight of the people of Kerala and said that the fishermen were the "worst affected". He demanded the central government to provide "immediate relief" to Kerala.

Congress Leader Demands Joint Parliamentry Committee For Rafale Deal

Congress Leader, Mallikarjun Kharge, said that a Joint Parliament Committee should be made for the Rafale Deal as it was made for the Bofors case. He said that what the BJP is now saying is to "mask corruption". 

A Parliament Joint Committee should be made, as it was done in Bofors case, to state facts of Rafale Deal. If it is cheaper, then PM should have stated it during #NoConfidenceMotion. National Council for Teacher Education (Amendment) Bill In Rajya Sabha Today

The National Council for Teacher Education (Amendment) Bill passed in the Lok Sabha will be discussed in the Rajya Sabha today. 

The law would grant recognition to government funded/ government recognized/unrecognized institutes, offering teacher education on or after the establishment of NCTE until academic year 2017-2018.

The bill has been put forward by the Women and Child Development Ministry and on the contents of the bill experts have expressed concerns over the bill owing to institutionalization of victims under rehabilitation and lack of attention to rights and needs of the victims, especially their safety.

Fugitive Economic Offender's Bill In Rajya Sabha Today

The Fugitive Economic Offender's Bill, already passed by the Lok Sabha, is to be discussed in Rajya Sabha today. The law would allow the authorities to attach the personal property of the fugitives with the case against them. Covering offenders worth 100 crores and more, the law ensures denial of any kind of immunity the offenders. The bill is expected to increases the recovery of money from the fugitives.

Not Bill But Political Will, Administrative Skill To Kill Social Evil: Venkaiah Naidu On Woman's Safety

"What you need is not a new bill but the the political will, the administrative skill and you can go for kill of the social evil", says Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu on the issue of women's safety during the proceedings after JMP Jaya Bachchan raised the issue in the house.

While speaking on the issue, Ms Bachchan said that it is embarrassing how women are treated in the country and she added that parents of the boys responsible for such acts should also be pulled up.
