Karnataka Political Crisis Live Updates: HD Kumaraswamy Arrives In Bengaluru, Ruling Coalition Holds Meeting

Top Karnataka Congress leader called for an emergency meeting this morning.

New Delhi:

A day after the resignation of over a dozen ruling Congress-Janata Dal Secular lawmakers rocked the ruling coalition in Karnataka and plunged the state into a political crisis, both parties have gone into a huddle to discuss the next course of action to save the government. Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, back in India after a private visit to the US, launched straight into damage control measures, calling a meeting of his JDS lawmakers at a hotel tonight. Sources close to the chief minister said at least some of the rebel lawmakers of the ruling coalition, who resigned over the last week, bringing the government to the verge of collapse, may return to the fold. If the resignation of all 13 lawmakers is accepted, the government of the Congress and JDS which has a wafer-thin majority, could collapse. Former prime minister and JDS veteran HD Deve Gowda has been meeting JDS as well as Congress leaders. The Congress' state in charge, KC Venugopal, has come to Bengaluru and met state party leaders at a private hotel.
