New Delhi: Detailed security arrangements have been organised to ensure that the counting of votes on December 18 for all the assembly constituencies happens in a peaceful manner, an official said on Saturday.

Three-tier security arrangements have been made, with media and public communication rooms also set up, at all the counting stations in Himachal Pradesh, the official told news agency Press Trust of India.

According to Chief Electoral Officer Pushpendra Rajput, counting of votes will take place at 42 centres across the state. The results are likely to be declared by noon.

All the voting centres have eight to ten feet high wire mesh barricades with separate entry passages for counting staff and counting agents, Mr Rajput said.

The counting will be videographed at all centres, which will be under CCTV surveillance.

2,280 officers will be deployed across the 42 counting centres, including 940 supervisors, 940 counting assistants and 940 micro-observers, he said. 781 counting tables have been provided at the centres.

This year's election, held on November 9, recorded a highest ever polling of 74.61 per cent in Himachal Pradesh. 337 candidates, including 19 women, are contesting the polls with the BJP and Congress fighting to gain control in the state. 68 constituencies went to vote.

Incumbent Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh is again Congress' nomination for the post, while Prem Kumar Dhumal is the BJP's candidate for the top post in the state.

If exit polls are to be believed, then Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP is set for victory in Himachal Pradesh, as well as Gujarat whose election results will also be announced on the same day.
