The Governor stated that attention should also be focused on rural areas.
West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to update him on the situation "as expected under Constitution" and said that need of the hour is to engage in relief on the ground.
"Electricity, water, and essential services be normalized urgently. Do not wish to share horrendous sufferings inputs from various parts of Kolkata and outside. This is no time to engage in tall claims Mamata Banerjee in media. The need of the hour is to engage in relief on the ground," Jagdeep Dhankhar tweeted.
He went on to say that the situation would not have been "so frightening" if attention was paid to preparation at the right time "instead of politics".
"The situation would not have been so frightening if instead of politics, attention was paid to preparation at the right time. Scenes of senior ministers in public spat and MLA's public thrashing are a depiction of the actual situation," he added.
The Governor stated that attention should also be focused on rural areas where the situation continues to be "frightening."
"There must be an end to blame game and finding scapegoats. Attention also be focused on rural areas where the situation continues to be frightening. These areas cannot be neglected. Urge Mamata Banerjee to update me on the situation as expected under Constitution," he tweeted.
A few days ago, Jagdeep Dhankhar had hit out at Mamata Banerjee stating that the Army would have been called three days back to carry out post-cyclone relief work if the TMC supremo had kept the Governor's office in the loop.
Tagging the Chief Minister's official handle on Twitter, Jagdeep Dhankhar said, "Urge Mamata - be in touch with Guv- had this been done army would have been called 3 days back".
He said that he is distressed and pained at the horrifying spectacle of people suffering for lack of basic facilities for several days and appealed people to stay calm.
Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to the state, had praised the West Bengal government's efforts under Mamata Banerjee to tackle the situation caused by Cyclone Amphan and COVID-19 crisis.
The Prime Minister also announced Rs 1,000 crore relief package for West Bengal and Rs 2 lakh each for the family of those dead and Rs 50,000 for the injured in the destruction caused by cyclone Amphan.
