Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to address the nation to announce his decision on whether the coronavirus lockdown will end on Tuesday. Sources say the lockdown may be extended but with many changes this time around. Interstate movement will remain restricted, except for essential services.

The health ministry today said that they have successfully evacuated nearly 3,473 foreigners from the country. Indians are also being evacuated from abroad. The work is still in progress. On Hydroxychloroquine, the ministry said that exports of this drug and four other medicines were restricted but since the demands were rising worldwide these restrictions have been relaxed. However, the ministry has assured that there is adequate stock for India. The ministry added that over one crore Indians are provided with food on daily basis amid lockdown. The borders are under strict vigilance, especially those where there is no proper fencing. The health ministry today confirmed that the coronavirus death count in India has become 206 while the total number of cases jumped to 6,761.

Coronavirus News: Chief Justice To Review Functioning Of Top Court Every 3-4 Days Amid COVID-19
Chief Justice S A Bobde will review the functioning of the Supreme court every three to four days in consultation with other judges and officials of health ministry in view of the nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic, an office bearer of Supreme Court Bar Association said.

"I spoke to Chief Justice of India (CJI) on April 10 at 12 noon and was informed that he was going to review the situation after every 3/4 days after consulting the other Judges and health ministry. Till then status quo. So better, we wait for a while," Advocate Ashok Arora said.

The top court on March 23 virtually went into the lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus and had suspended for indefinite period the entry of advocates and other staff in the high security zone on the basis of their proximity cards, news agency PTI reported.

Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) DG Kumar Rajesh Chandra on Friday said that the country's borders have been completely sealed and India has enforced strict lockdown and Nepal was doing the same by augmenting their deployment to prevent any infiltration by criminals taking the advantage of COVID-19 pandemic.

"We're enforcing strict lockdown and Nepal has been doing the same by augmenting their deployment. The letter is based on intelligence input about a criminal. We're looking into it," Mr Chandra said, news agency ANI reported.

Coronavirus News: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Warns Strict Action Against Lockdown Violators
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today warned people who are violating the restrictions imposed in the state in the wake of coronavirus lockdown and asserted that strict action will be taken against violators.

"The government is making an appeal to people that we have to break the chain of coronavirus. People irrespective of all religions are supporting the government. But some people are trying to hide that they are infected with the virus," Chouhan told ANI.

"Several people from Jamaat hide this fact which is the reason the virus got spread in many districts. They are risking their lives along with others. There will be strict action. I am warning those people who are violating the restrictions," he said, news agency ANI reported.

Meghalaya Speaker Urges Chief Minister To Extend Lockdown Till April 30
Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh toay wrote to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, urging him to extend the lockdown period till April 30, as the number of COVID-19 cases have been rising in the
country.

Though no such case has been reported from the state so far, the government should continue with the existing measures to tackle the crisis by end of the current month so that Meghalaya remains free of COVID-19, he said.

"There are increasing number of COVID-19 patients in the country. It is worrisome. I have written to the chief minister to consider extension of the lockdown period till April end," he told PTI.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today said the decision on extending the lockdown in the state beyond April 14 will be taken while keeping public health in mind.

Coronavirus News: 30 COVID-19 Cases Reported In Madhya Pradesh, Total Reaches 456 Mark
With 30 people testing positive for coronavirus in Madhya Pradesh today, the number of coronavirus cases in the state climbed to 456, while one moreperson succumbed to the disease, taking the death count to 37, health officials said.

Twenty-one new cases were reported in Bhopal, which took the tally of COVID-19 patients in the state capital to 119, they said.

Indore has reported the highest 235 cases in the state so far. But Friday's data of new cases from Indore, if any, was awaited.

A 65-year-old doctor died in Indore due to coronavirus infection today.

Coronavirus News: Odisha Seeks More COVID-19 Funds From Centre
The Odisha government today sought more funds, equipment and testing kits to effectively tackle the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

The state's Health and Family Welfare Minister NK Das earlier in the day briefed his counterpart in the Union government, Harsh Vardhan, through video-conferencing.

"We have demanded more Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for doctors and healthcare workers... masks and COVID- 19 testing kits," Mr Das told reporters, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: With 98 Fresh COVID-19 Cases Reported In Rajasthan, Total Reachs 561 Mark
The total number of coronavirus cases in Rajasthan rose to 561 as 98 fresh cases were reported in the state today while the fatality count due to the disease increased to eight with the death of a 65-year-old woman at a hospital in Jaipur, officials said.

The fresh cases include eight people evacuated from Iran, they said.

Defence sources said all the 1,036 Indians evacuated from Iran had tested negative for the virus in that country but 50 of them have tested positive now. They were kept in Army-run quarantine facilities.

"With 98 fresh cases reported on Friday, the total number of COVID-19 patients has reached 561, whereas with the death of a 65-year-old woman who died at SMS hospital in Jaipur on Thursday evening, the number of deaths has increased to eight," an official said, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: Srinagar Tops COVID-19 Cases Among 13 Infected Districts In J&K
With 207 people infected with coronavirus, Srinagar has reported the most number of COVID-19 cases among the 13 districts of Jammu and Kashmir affected by the virus, according to official data released today.

Kashmir's nine districts have reported COVID-19 cases, except Anantnag in South Kashmir. Out of Jammu's 10 districts, four have been hit by the deadly virus.

The data showed that out of the total cases, 197 are active, six have recovered and four died.

Out of the total 51 positive cases in Srinagar, 49 are active, one has recovered and one died, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: 4 COVID-19 Infected Patients Recover In Himachal Pradesh
Four more COVID-19-infected patients have recovered in Himachal Pradesh, taking the total in the state to six, a senior health official said today.

Three patients admitted to a Shimla hospital on April 5 and another admitted to a hospital in Kangra district from Una on April, 3 have recovered from COVID-19, Additional Secretary (Health) RD Dhiman said in Shimla.

The reports of the three patients admitted in Shimla are found to be negative, he added, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: COVID-19 Cases In Delhi Tops 900, 183 Reported Today Itself
The total number of coronavirus cases in Delhi today climbed to 903, with 183 fresh cases and two deaths being reported in a day, according to the Delhi government authorities.

Of the total cases, 584 are related to the religious congregation that took place in Nizamuddin area in March.

Till Thursday night, the number of cases of the deadly virus in the city stood at 720 including 12 deaths.

With two more fatalities reported, the death count from COVID-19 in Delhi has jumped to 14.

Out of the total cases, 26 have been discharged and one has migrated out of the country, authorities said, news agency PTI reported.

One More COVID-19 Death In Tamil Nadu, 77 Test Positive
A 70-year-old woman died of coronavirus in Tamil Nadu today, taking the count in the state so far to nine, while 77 people tested positive, pushing the total to 911, Chief Secretary K Shanmugam said.

The Chief Secretaty said all the 77 people who tested positive were primary contacts and from various containment areas in the state.

"The new cases have been reported in those places which have been marked as containment or quarantine areas", he said.

The government, he said, was strengthening its efforts to contain the virus, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: Assam Seals Mosque Where 3 COVID-19 Infected Patients Stayed
The Assam government has sealed a mosque in Guwahati where three persons who later tested positive for COVID-19 had stayed to attend a religious congregation last month, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said today.

Two of them had returned to Assam after attending a Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi's Nizamuddin area. The third stayed with them at the Athgaon Kabarsthan Masjid and accompanied one of them to Dhubri, Sharma said at a press conference in Guwahati.

At least 100 people attended the gathering at the mosque on March 12 and the organisers have so far given the names of 58 people and they have been quarantined, he said.

"The fact that a congregation was held here was brought to our notice much later and we have asked the organisers to give a list of all people who attended it," he said, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: Salaries of Arunachal Ministers, MLAs Cut By 30% Amid COVID-19
In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet today approved an ordinance to reduce salaries of all ministers and MLAs, including the chief minister, by 30 per cent for a year.

The cabinet headed by Chief Minister Pema Khandu decided to reduce the salaries with effect from April 1, 2020.

The fund will go to the state exchequer and utilised in the fight against COVID-19, a communique from the Chief Minister's Office said.

The cabinet also reviewed the preparedness of the state to contain the spread of coronavirus and efforts required to strengthen the infrastructure to tackle the situation, it said, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: In Mumbai's Dharavi, 6 Arrested For Good Friday Prayer Assembly Amid Lockdown: Police
Six people were arrested in Mumbai's Dharavi area for assembling to offer prayers on the occasion of Good Friday in violation of lockdown norms in place for the novel coronavirus outbreak, the police said.

Police got a tip-off that some people had gathered in a room in Gandhinagar society for prayers, and six were arrested
under sections of Indian Penal Code and Epidemic Diseases Act for disobeying official orders, and later released on bail, an official said.

Dharavi, one of the most congested urban clusters in the world, has seen several COVID-19 cases and authorities are taking all efforts to ensure it does not emerge as a hotspot in the metropolis, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: 161 Cyber Cases Reported In Maharashtra As Fake News Rise Amid COVID-19
The Maharashtra Cyber has registered 161 offences for circulation of hate speeches, fake news and rumours on social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsAapp, Instagram and Twitter in connection with the novel coronavirus outbreak, a senior police official said today.

Maharashtra Cyber Superintendent of Police Balsing Rajput said there was rise in hate speeches on such platforms.

"Out of the total cases we have registered, 73 are for hate speeches. So far we have arrested 39 people and 33 have been identified for further action. Our data shows 30 cases have been registered for fake news, rumours regarding the virus outbreak," he said, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: 7 Test Positive For COVID-19 In Kerala
Seven more people, including two Tablighi Jamaat returnees, tested positive for COVID-19 in Kerala today, taking the total number of
active cases in the state to 238.

Kerala Health minister KK Shailaja said 124 people have so far been cured of the infection, including 27 today.

Of the seven cases, three are from the worst affected Kasaragod and two each from Kannur and Malappuram districts, a press release quoting the minister said.

The two who tested positive from Malappuram had participated in the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in New Delhi recently.

Five people had contracted the infection through contacts, of which two are from Kannur and three from Kasaragod, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: J&K Reports 23 Fresh COVID-19 Cases, Total Count Reaches Over 200 Mark
The number of COVID-19-infected people in Jammu and Kashmir increased above 200 today as 23 new cases were detected in the union territory, officials said.

"Today, 23 fresh cases were detected in Jammu and Kashmir," the officials said.

While 16 cases were detected in the Kashmir Valley, seven persons were found positive in Jammu region, they said.

The total number of positive cases in the union territory has now risen to 207 - out of which 168 were in Kashmir and 39 in Jammu.

The number of positive cases has been steadily increasing in the Valley over the past week, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: Over 4,000 COVID-19 Test Kits Reach Odisha: Government Sources
Amid spurt in COVID-19 cases, the Odisha government has procured a substantial number of test kits and other materials as part of its measures to ensure speedy detection of coronavirus infections in the
state, official sources said today.

Kits for conducting at least 4,000 tests, reagents and virus transportation mediums (VTMs) were airlifted from Mumbai on Thursday as the government stepped up its drive to enhance COVID-19 testing facilities in the state, an official said.

The kits will give a considerable boost to the states preparedness to tackle the COVID-19 outbreak, he said, news agency PTI reported.

The arrival of the kits was significant as Odisha is now all set to start coronavirus testing at three more locations in addition to the four existing test facilities in the state, he said.

The aim is to put in place adequate capacities soon to conduct at least 1,000 tests for COVID-19 daily, the senior official said.

Coronavirus News: Case Against Over 130 For Stepping Without Masks In Delhi: Police
Over 130 cases were registered against people for stepping out of their houses without wearing masks to guard themselves against coronavirus in the national capital, the police said today.

According to the police, a total of 137 cases were registered under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.

Among the 137, 32 cases were registered in Delhi's northwest district, 23 in south district, 20 in north district, 14 in outer district and 14 in the Shahdara district, the police said.

Face masks have become mandatory for people stepping out of their houses in Delhi, news agency PTI reported.

In south district, a case was registered for violation of directives issued by the police against gathering of people during Shab-e-barat amid the lockdown imposed to control the spread of coronavirus.

Coronavirus News: Maharashtra Seeks Nod For COVID-19 Testing Labs In 5 Districts
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope today sough the Union government's permission to start coronavirus testing laboratories in Nanded, Jalna, Aurangabad, Latur and Amravati districts in the state.

He made the demand during a meeting with Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan through video conferencing, officials said.

Mr Tope said the rise in the number of COVID-19 patients in Maharashtra was a cause of concern, and demanded that the centre provide more Personal Protection Equipment kits and N-95 masks, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: In UP, 10-Month-Old Dies At COVID-19 Quarantine
A 10-month-old baby girl died today at a quarantine centre set up in a primary school inUttar Pradesh, a senior official said.

The toddler was rushed to the district hospital in an ambulance but doctors declared her brought dead, he said.

The family had come from outside and were instructed to stay at a primary school at Chaurasi village that was functioning as a quarantine centre, District MagistrateSiddharthnagar, Deepak Meena said, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: Gautam Gambhir Supports Extension Of COVID-19 Lockdown
BJP MP from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir has batted for extension of the 21-day lockdown period to contain the spread of coronavirus, saying the country can not afford the risk of resurgence of the pandemic.

Noting that chief minister's of some states have said that lockdown needs to be extended and the prime minister has to take a decision on it, he said extension is not a bad idea considering that a large number of people will come out after the lockdown ends and will be exposed to the virus that is still beyond control.

Don't Allow Religious gatherings During Lockdown: Centre Tells States
In view of the ensuing festivals, the centre today asked the states and union territories to strictly adhere to the ongoing 21-day lockdown and not allow any social or religious gathering and procession.

In a communication, the Union Home Ministry also said that appropriate vigil on social media should be maintained against circulation of any objectionable content.

Coronavirus News: UP Villagers Allegedly Attack Police Checking Liquor Sale Amid Lockdown
A police team was attacked with bricks and stones during a raid to check illicit sale of liquor in Uttar Pradesh's Chitrakoot district today, an official said.

One sub-inspector and two constables sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at a government hospital, said ASP Balwant Chaudhari.

He said the incident took place in Ghadighat village under Pahadi police station limits when the police team reached there to check illicit liquor sale during the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: In Maharashtra, 338 Essential Goods Company To Resume Work During Lockdown
As many as 338 companies manufacturing essential commodities in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district received permission to resume their
operations during the COVID-19 lockdown, an official said today.

A committee constituted by the district collector granted these permits to ensure smooth supply of essential commodities during the lockdown, he said.

Several companies in Aurangabad's industrial belt were forced to shut their operations when the lockdown was announced last month and some of them included manufacturers of essential commodities, news agency PTI reported.

The committee, under the chairmanship of regional officer Rajendra Joshi, granted permission to 338 companies to resume their operations.

Passes have been allotted to limited number of employees from these 338 companies, he added.

Coronavirus News: Chhattisgarh BJP Legislators To Donate Rs 11 Lakh For COVID-19
All 14 BJP legislators in Chhattisgarh will aid the state's fight against COVID-19 pandemic by donating Rs 11 lakh from their local area development funds to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF).

Apart from this, the party MLAs will also donate 30 per cent of their basic salary to the CMRF for a year and their one-month salary to PM CARES Fund.

BJP legislative party leader Dharamlal Kaushik made this announcement in a press statement issued in Raipur.

The 90-member state Assembly has 14 BJP MLAs, including Mr Kaushik, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: 6 Thai Nationals Who Tested Positive For COVID-19 Arrested For Visa Vilation In Tamil Nadu: Police
Six Thailand nationals, who tested positive for coronavirus and are undergoing treatment at a government hospital near Tamil Nadu were arrested for allegedly indulging in religious preaching in violation of visa norms, the police said today.

The arrest took place in a hospital on Thursday evening, days after cases were registered against them under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code.

Police personnel were posted outside the isolation ward of the hospital, where the six are undergoing treatment.

Coronavirus News: With 21 New COVID-19 Cases In UP, Total Count Rises To 431
The number of total confirmed coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh rose to 431 toay with 21 more people testing positive, while the death count stood at four, a senior health official said. "As many as 431 people have tested positive so far. Of them, 32 have been treated," Principal Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said in an official release issued in Lucknow.

Till Thursday, there were 410 cases in the state of whom 225 are linked to last month's Tablighi Jamaat event in the national capital, he said.

The death count in the state due to COVID-19 stands at four - one each in Meerut, Basti, Varanasi and Agra districts, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus News: 3,473 Foreign Nationals Have Been Evacuated Till Thursday: Health Ministry
The health ministry today said that they have successfully evacuated nearly 3,473 foreigners from the country. Indians are also being evacuated from abroad. The work is still in progress. On Hydroxychloroquine, the ministry said that exports of this drug and four other medicines were restricted but since the demands were rising worldwide these restrictions have been relaxed. However, the ministry has assured that there is adequate stock for India.

The Health Ministry also said that there are 39 authorised manufacturers of Personal Protection Equipment available across the country.

"In the past few weeks we all applauded the work being done by our medical staff across the country, but there are some reports of manhandling of medical workers. We urge you all to cooperate and respect them. Today we again held a detailed discussion with all states to know the situation on ground across the country." the health ministry added.

On Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's comments on coronavirus the health ministry pointed out that,"there is no community transmission yet across the country. We must all ensure we follow the lockdown and rules strictly."

Coronavirus News: Nearly 250 Indians Infected By COVID-19 In Singapore: Indian High Commission
About 250 Indians, with nearly half of them staying in close contact in the dormitories for foreign workers, have tested positive for the coronavirus in Singapore, the Indian High Commission in Singapore said today.

Indian High Commissioner Jawed Ashraf told PTI that almost all of the Indians who have the disease are mostly stable or improving. He said that the about 250 Indian nationals, who are suffering from the disease, include some permanent residents.

Of the infected Indians, nearly 50 per cent are from dormitories for foreign workers, which have emerged as the disease spreading points in the country.

As the country has ramped up aggressive testing in the dormitories, the numbers are expected to climb in the next few days.

Coronavirus News: "Crime": Delhi AIIMS Doctor On Rumours Of COVID-19 Spread From Animals To Humans
Calling the circulation of rumours about animals spreading COVID-19 a "classic example of spreading misinformation, disinformation, distorted information," Dr Chandrakant Pandav, Head of Centre for Community Medicine, AIIMS Delhi, said that this totally wrong and he considers it a "crime".

Dr Pandav said that all medical institutes in the world have stated that "there is no evidence that dogs and cats are transmitting or are being affected by COVID-19."

Asked about rumours that pets can spread COVID-19, he said, "This news is totally wrong. This is a classic example of spreading misinformation, disinformation, distorted information. I think it is a crime. For me, I consider it as a crime to spread this wrong information."

He added, "Unfortunately, like everything else in life, it''s a double-edged sword. So, social media can be used for good purpose as well as for bad purpose... So, I think we have to change our mindset in terms of how we transmit and communicate the news to people. This is a very serious lapse, it should be made a criminal offence if somebody spreads this particular news," news agency ANI reported.

Coronavirus News: Bengal Taxi Body To Provide Emergency Services Amid COVID-19 Lockdown
The Bengal Taxi Association (BTA) today said it is ready to provide cabs for emergencency purpose during the ongoing lockdown as suggested
by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Expressing the association's eagerness to help people during this crisis, BTA general secretary Bimal Guha said that it would be helpful if a government order is issued in this regard.

Most of the metred taxis in the city operate under the banner of the BTA.

"A senior official of the Public Vehicles Department (PVD) on Thursday asked me to make arrangements for keeping five taxis each at important junctions across the city to help people reach their destination during an emergency," Mr Guha said, news agency PTI reported.

720 have tested positive in Delhi, informs health minister

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Friday informed that so far 720 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the national capital.

"Out of these, 22 are in ICUs and seven on ventilators," Mr Jain said.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday said India's total number of COVID-19 positive cases now stands at 6,412. Out of these, 5,709 are active patients and 503 of them have been cured/discharged and one has migrated.

Special train carrying masks, sanitizers, medicines arrives in Jammu

Amid lockdown in wake of the coronavirus crisis, a first parcel train carrying essentials commodities arrived at the Jammu Railway Station from New Delhi, on Friday.

"The train departed from New Delhi last night around 10 pm carrying essential supplies and delivered it to Panipat, Ambala, Ludhiana, Pathankot and Jammu. The essential supplies include masks, sanitisers and other medicines," Vijay Kumar, Indian Railways Officer told ANI.

Indian Railways on Thursday introduced time-tabled parcel trains for nationwide transportation of essential commodities and other goods, the national transporter said on Wednesday.

Coronavirus news: Dead woman's samples test positive in Punjab

A 78-year-old woman from Mundi Kharar, who died here at Kharar Civil Hospital on April 7, had coronavirus, informed Mohali District Collector on Friday.

The woman was admitted to the emergency ward of the said hospital with co-morbid conditions and breathed her last on April 7. Her body was cremated as per COVID-19 protocol.

The district administration has traced all her primary contracts and their samples will be sent for testing soon.

"A 78-yr-old woman with co-morbid conditions, from Mundi Kharar who was brought to Emergency Ward of Kharar Civil Hospital and later died on 7 April, has posthumously tested positive for COVID-19. Her body already cremated as per protocol. Primary contacts traced and to be sampled," said the Mohali DC.

The Uttar Pradesh government has provided Rs 1,000 financial aid each to over 11 lakh construction workers in the state till date amid the nationwide lockdown, said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday.

Addressing media here, the Chief Minister said: "The State government had decided to extend help to those people whose livelihood has been affected due to COVID-19. Coronavirus cases: 26 people test positive in Rajasthan

Twenty-six new cases of coronavirus were reported on Friday in Rajasthan taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 489.

According to Rajasthan Health Department data the total samples received in the state are 19,107, including 1082 evacuees samples. There are 489 positive cases of coronavirus till now. The samples found negative are 17851 and those under process are 767.

As per the state Health Department, 26 people were found positive for coronavirus on Friday.

Coronavirus India: Gurugram declares 9 areas as containment zones

Gurugram district administration on Thursday declared nine areas in the city as containment zones.

"Nine areas in Gurugram, Haryana have been declared as containment zones for all the purposes and objectives as prescribed in the protocol of COVID-19, to prevent its spread in the adjoining areas," the district administration said in a statement.

The nine areas include Sector-9, Sector-54/Nirvana Country, Palam Vihar, Emar Palm Gardens Sector-83, Laburnum Society, Sector-39, Village Fazilpur Jharsa, Ward Number 11 Pataudi and Village Raipur Sohna.
