The Odisha Police is facing a difficult situation as at least three sleaze videos involving girls from the state have surfaced within a week.
A day after the police arrested three persons on charges of making viral a video featuring a girl being stripped in Mayurbhanj district, cops today arrested another youth from Baripada town on similar charges.
The youth, a student of B B College at Baiganbadia village under Kuliana block in Mayurbhanj district, allegedly made viral the picture of his girlfriend in social media yesterday. "We have arrested the youth and booked him under different sections of the IPC and IT Act," said Abhimanyu Nayak, SDPO, Baripada.
The youth was later sent to jail after the sub-divisional judicial magistrate court, Baripada judge P K Behera, rejected his bail petition.
Similarly, the police in Keonjhar district has registered a case after a similar video went viral in the district.
DGP RP Sharma has directed the Keonjhar police to probe into the incident and arrest the culprits.
Reports said that the culprits are seen forcing a woman to undress at a forest in Keonjhar district.
Meanwhile, the frequent instances of obscene vidoes have created a flutter in the state with women organizations and social activists demanding stringent action against those circulating the videos on social media platforms. "The trend of obscene videos being made viral on social media is leading to voyeurism which is a dangerous trend," said commissioner of police Y B Khurania.
Stating these actions are criminal in nature, Mr Khurania said adequate care should be taken to ensure that rumours are not spread in media as it is traumatic for the victim.
He urged the people and victims to come forward and report such incidents to police for prompt action. "If anyone feels that local police officers are not responsive, he should immediately report the matter to their superior officers so that action can be taken against the accused persons," Mr Khurania said.
