Four soldiers were injured today in an encounter with terrorists along the Line of Control or LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. The injured soldiers have been shifted to an army hospital.
The encounter started after the troops challenged a group of terrorists trying to infiltrate from Nowgam sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district, 120 km from Srinagar.
The police said the army saw some suspicious movement around 4:20 am near Sangam post on the LoC. The soldiers challenged the infiltrating terrorists who opened fire, triggering a gunbattle.
"The infiltration bid was supported by the Pakistan Army which provided cover fire to the terrorists. The operation is going on. Reinforcements have been rushed to the area," a police officer said.
The army today also found a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a massive search operation launched near the Line of Control or LoC in Rajouri district, defence sources said.
The search operation in Jammu and Kashmir was started in Jhanjar area early in the day after a soldier was injured on Wednesday while trying to foil an infiltration bid by terrorists.
"A large forest area has been surrounded. The operation is still on to ensure that no terrorist is hiding in the dense jungle," a source said.
