One accused has been arrested after a midnight encounter during a checking at a post in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district near Delhi. Other suspects have managed to escape, police said.
The incident occurred at a check post in Ghaziabad set up ahead of
Republic Day celebrations. Police have also recovered a pistol from the spot.
Ankit, the man arrested by the police is wanted in a loot case in Ghaziabad's Rajnagar area and carries a cash reward of Rs 25, 000 on his head.
Delhi and the national capital region are on high alert due to Republic Day. Centre has asked the Delhi Police to be prepared to foil any attempt by terrorists to carry out strikes in the city.
Delhi Police have set up a wireless integrated public address (WIPA) system to enhance security at crowded places and popular markets in the city amid a high security alert ahead of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.
Police have also been conducting a series of mock drills to check their preparedness in dealing with terror situations.
