With childhood obesity emerging as one of the biggest health concerns these days, a recent survey examined the dietary pattern of kids across the country. It was found that not more than 20% of urban kids manage to eat fruits daily. When it comes to dietary protein intake, only 14% of kids consume protein once a day. Only 35% of kids eat vegetables as a part of their daily meals, noted the survey. Lack of proper nutrition and easy availability of processed and refined food items is inducing weight gain in kids. More and more kids are spending their time indoors, glued to their computer screens of smartphones, lack of physical activity is adding further to the rising of incident of obesity in kids. However, 75% the parents who participated in the study along with their children said that their kids take part in some sort of outdoor activity.

A new study led by Imperial College London and WHO and published in the journal Lancet showed that the number of obese children and adolescents (aged five to 19 years) worldwide has risen tenfold in the past four decades, reported IANS.

The importance of a balanced diet cannot be discounted. Your kid's meal should include all essential nutrients and food groups essential for his/her optimum health and growth. Proper sleep is also of the utmost importance.
